Maria Smale

Maria is an accomplished clinical pharmacist with over 20 years’ experience working within the NHS.  She has spent most of her time working locally at Salisbury hospital, where she is a member of the senior pharmacy team.  In 2020 Maria was appointed to an innovative integrated care role working collaboratively between both Sarum West PCN and Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust. She has a breadth of experience leading all aspects of medicines optimisation both in primary and secondary care, a postgraduate clinical pharmacy diploma, is an established independent prescriber and has many years’ experience delivering clinical pharmacy training to both pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.

Maria is also the Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust Clinical Lead for smoking cessation and is passionate about reducing health inequalities faced by patients, especially related to public health and risky behaviours.

Maria plays a key role in developing medicines focussed integrated care in the Salisbury area and is a quality improvement coach who thrives working to develop medicines optimisation services with patient health and wellbeing at the heart of all she does.
